Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips together with the President Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
