Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. After graduating she attended in the University of California Los Angeles where she earned diplomas in English and African American studies. While she was still in school, DuVernay was interested in creating in television journalism. She started as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to sit at the home of one member of the jury as well as examine their junk. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalism tasks and decided to move into the business of public relations. DuVernay began her work as a junior assistant to publicity in a tiny film studio, right after graduating from college. In 1999, she launched her own business of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency. The agency was the first to launch a variety of networks for promotion and lifestyle which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
